SinArts English

PREMIER: 25-26 September 2026 @ MU Theatre

Meeting Point Collective’s first full-length production is a sensitive and playful encounter between two subcultural worlds that evolve in parallel. A contemporary dancer and a hip-hop dancer start their journey of getting to know each other from scratch, while also rethinking their own genre-based and personal boundaries. Through the process of connecting, they reinterpret both themselves and their relationship to dance. Reflection on the past, a search for the present, virtuosity, abstraction, and self-irony are all present in this performance, which offers a glimpse into the performers’ most human layers.

A dance theater performance that draws on the intersection of contemporary dance and hip-hop. It explores intercultural dialogue and the possibilities of human connection through a style that is at once pop-inspired, playful, and abstract.

Meeting Point Collective was founded in the spring of 2026. Its founders and creators are Réka Oberfrank and Péter Katona: Réka is a contemporary dancer, and Peti is a hip-hop dancer. Their first full-length production stems from the intersection of these two genres. What does the performing arts milieu determine for us? How do our own milieus shape how we are perceived, and what happens when we step outside these familiar roles? Who would we be if we could start all over again?

Ultimately, the performance is the story of two dancers – two people – getting to know one another. Through the theatrical space, dance, and their stage presence, they seek out various forms of connection. However, it is not merely two genres that meet; rather, two distinct personalities – two people from different backgrounds, with differing perspectives and experiences – stand side by side. Or perhaps they aren’t so different after all?

Just as in everyday life, they seek entry points into each other’s worlds where they can draw closer to one another while remaining true to themselves, and together discover new layers time and again. Mutual inspiration, curiosity, the joy of creation, and childlike playfulness guided them throughout their collaborative work. While drawing on their own dance roots and the origins of the genres they represent, they also explored how these forms can reflect on contemporary issues. The performance is both a personal encounter and a dialogue about identity, differences, and the possibilities of coexistence.

Réka Oberfrank is a freelance dancer, creator, and teacher. She graduated from the Budapest Contemporary Dance Academy with a BA and MA degree in contemporary dance and pedagogy. She continued her studies at The Danish National School of Performing Arts and the Spanish formation CobosMika Seeds. She has collaborated with numerous Hungarian artists, including Réka Szabó, Kata Juhász, OneTwoMany Collective, Zsófia Tamara Vadas, Eszter Gál, Tamás Bakó, Imre Vass, Csaba Molnár, Júlia Vavra, Viktor Szeri, and Adrienn Hód. Since 2021, she has been a permanent member of Willany Leó Improvisation Dance Theatre. Réka has created several full-length choreographic works. Her most recent piece, Miracle, after two years of touring various theatre and festival stages, was selected for dunaPart6 – the Hungarian platform for outstanding contemporary performances, which also led to an international invitation to Germany. In her artistic practice, she continuously explores the inner play of the body — the sense of rhythm, fluidity, and playfulness that lives within the joints and muscles.

Péter Katona is a hip hop dancer, teacher, and choreographer, as well as co-founder and leader of TRUESCHOOL dance community. His career grew out of the hip hop culture, with a strong commitment to improvisation, choreography, and battles. In 2012, as a member of Quantum XXL, he reached the finals of Hungary’s Got Talent and went on to tour nationally and internationally. For several years, he performed on cruise ships with full-length stage productions. In 2022, his choreography MAYBE earned 5th place at the Hip Hop International World Championships in the USA, ranking as the best team from Hungary and Europe. Péter continually develops his craft, drawing inspiration from popping, locking, and house styles. He has trained at international workshops, learning from renowned artists such as Buddha Stretch, Henry Link, and Sekou Hero. As an active performer and organizer in Hungary’s underground dance scene, Péter’s work emphasizes dynamics, musicality, and improvisation. He believes that hip-hop is more than movement — it is a form of self-expression that reflects one’s personality and story.
