ZSUZSA RÓZSAVÖLGYI: MEDUSE (2016)

Premiered in 2016, Trafó

The performance is the new version of the Laban Prize nominated piece Old Pond by Zsusza Rózsavölgyi and Tóbiás Terebessy. The choreographer now retakes the pulsating choreography with 21 dancers from Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance (SEAD).

The choreography is built around the sensation of the body in a constantly changing environment. The proposition of change and stability and how it manifests itself in ecological systems. Choreographed homeostasis, dynamic equilibrium, and „flux of nature”. The piece refers to Joanna Macy’s (environmental activist, author, deep ecologist) concept: the greening of the self. How humans shift from ego-self to eco-self. How can we begin to develop a sense of connectedness and compassion with other living forms on the planet? The audience, while witnessing the piece, can observe in detail the dance taking place in the depths of the ocean floor. One can see and feel the connection between the human body and other life forms. Medusa envelops the audience with its meditative atmosphere. The powerful choreography takes us on a deep dive into empathy.
